Application for Baptism
Preparation courses take place every second month and consist of two sessions; you need to attend both sessions to be ready to have your child baptised.
Please read the information below before you make your application for baptism
In asking to have your child baptised you are entering into a sacred partnership with the Church. This partnership takes the form of a number of promises that are made on the day of your childs baptism. It's worth reviewing them now:
You are accepting the responsibilty of bringing your child up in the practice of the faith. Can you do this?
It will be your duty to bring your child up to keep God's commandments. Can you do this?
These seem easy promises to make on paper but may not be so in reality.
- You may not be a practising Catholic
- You may not come regularly to Mass
- Your partner may not be Catholic
- You will probably need to explore further what these promises really mean before you can genuinely commit to them

The Church is here, however, to help you in your request to have your child baptised.
Two session course
First of all you will be asked to attend a two session course prior to the baptism date. In general baptism takes place only when the course is completed.
If you foresee any difficulties with these dates, please contact Fr David or Fr John . Session one will deal with 'why baptism' and 'The Church I am joining'. The second session will look at the rite of baptism itself and what promises you and the Godparents make at the baptism.
Rite of Welcome
Whether or not you choose to have your child baptised outside of Mass there will be an opportunity for the whole community to welcome your child at a Sudnay Mass with a rite of welcome. This helps you to feel part of the Church into which you have asked to have your child baptised. You will be pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome you and your family will receive.
A sense of belonging
We invite you to consider seriously the application you are about to make. It is a serious undertaking. we will support you and encourage you in your faith commitment. The Church you child will be baptised into is a community of people who know they belong to Christ. We want you and your child to know this truth and to live it with a firm faith.
